Chiropractic Treatment for Scoliosis in Tigard, OR

Scoliosis is a common spinal problem that affects about 9 million Americans, and the majority of cases are mild. Scoliosis is a partial curvature of the spine. It usually appears during a child’s growth spurt, right before the onset of puberty.

At Tigard Chiropractic & Auto Injury, we are passionate about Scoliosis because we’ve seen first hand the pain and discomfort caused by this condition. With the help of Chiropractic adjustments, no one should have to suffer from pain and discomfort caused by scoliosis.

In addition to a curvature of the spine, the visible symptoms of scoliosis may include uneven shoulders or hips, or ribs that stick out further on one side than the other. Scoliosis can also cause fatigue, muscle strain, back stiffness, pain and/or numbness in the legs, and lower back pain.

Scoliosis can affect patients of all ages. Chiropractic treatments are safe, non-invasive, holistic, drug-free, and have proven an effective remedy to reduce scoliosis pain and discomfort.

If you are currently suffering from Scoliosis, please schedule a consultation at our office in Tigard and with the help of gentle adjustments, our team will have you on the road to recovery.

3 Types of Scoliosis

Congenital

This type forms when a baby’s vertebrae or spinal segments do not develop correctly while in the womb. In rare cases, the curvature of the spine is so severe that it puts pressure on the lungs, causing the baby to have trouble breathing. In some cases, children with congenital scoliosis may also manifest problems with their nervous system, bladder, and kidneys.

Neuromuscular

Neuromuscular scoliosis can be found in both children & adults. This type of scoliosis is most commonly triggered by neurological or muscular problems. Scoliosis can also occur if the muscles stop working. Depending on the severity of your neuromuscular scoliosis, we may be able to reduce your pain and help you regain some, if not most, of your mobility.

Adolescent Idiopathic

This is the most common form of scoliosis. It typically affects children between the ages of ten and eighteen. Unfortunately, we still don’t know why this form occurs. However, theories suggest that it is most likely caused by hormonal imbalances, asymmetric growth, or family history. Some children with this problem will have an obvious curvature of the spine, but may not deal with pain or neurological problems.

The Road to Healing

Chiropractic Care for Scoliosis

Chiropractic care has been demonstrated in numerous research studies to slow or stop the progression of scoliosis. Most chiropractors will have the resources and experience to provide you the most appropriate care, which may keep you from looking into more invasive or even surgical treatments.

The chiropractor will request your full health history to identify any factors that could be contributing to the presence of scoliosis, such as occupational factors, lifestyle habits, previous traumas, and recreational activities. After these factors have been considered, they will likely perform specific spinal adjustments to reverse the body’s compensations and assist in the restoration process.

If you have any questions regarding scoliosis or chiropractic care, please give our team at Tigard Chiropractic & Auto Injury a call.

Our Process

How We Help You Achieve Relief

Our step-by-step process for chiropractic treatment looks similar for all of our patients, but the adjustments and details of recovery are always personalized. We walk our patients through three distinct phases of recovery that are tailored to each individual.

All of our treatment plans are curated based on test results, your prior health history, and initial consultation and exam, as well as your recovery goals. We help you achieve optimal wellness and recovery through the following process:

Step 1: Relief

In the Relief phase, your most uncomfortable symptoms are addressed. Everyone’s body is unique, so our adjustments will target the most painful areas first. In addition to targeted adjustments, you may also engage in massage therapy appointments to aid in muscle relaxation and further promote recovery.

Step 2: Restore

In the Restore phase, you work closely with your chiropractor to create lifelong habits that will allow you to sustain recovery and prevent new or worsening injuries. Your plan in this phase may also include at-home exercises and lifestyle recommendations intended to help relieve and prevent sciatica.

Step 3: Rehab

The Rehab phase helps solidify the progress you made in the first two phases of treatment. Plans in this phase contain both passive and active recovery measures. Active recovery measures include implementing lifestyle changes, at-home exercises, posture changes, and other modifications. Passive recovery includes chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, and other modalities where you allow a professional to work on your muscles and joints for you.
